I lavandin (The fields of lavender)

From Torre Paponi to Torre Paponi

Time taken for the journey: 3 hours

Go up the road that is near the parking place at the entrance of the small town. If you go on you will able to visit the Saint Bartolomeo chapel (San Betumè), it is near the churchyard. There, leave the asphalt road, turn right and walk along a cobblestones mule-track that takes to Lingueglietta. When you arrive at a group of stones (“rocca da Basura” ) there is another road where you can go by car, this road has levelled ground (15 minutes form Torre Paponi). If you go on up you will arrive near a field of lavender, it is on the ridge (there is a beautiful view you can see the sea and Civezza). Now leave the road and walk up the ridge following the methane pipe-line (marked with yellow and red poles) until you cross the road that links Lingueglietta to Boscomare (1 hour and 30 minutes). At the foot of  Casarazzi mount, 450 metres above sea-level, this area is called “Giu de barche” . If you turn to the right, you will arrive at Boscomare (2 hours). You have to go down the provincial road for a couple of kilometres, until you cross a junction with a path leading (2 hours and 30 minutes), to Torre Paponi (3 hours). As you walk along it, you will pass through the wood called fraschetta” and you can visit the Calvario chapel .

“rocca da Basura” or “da Basua”: this name means “Rock of witches”. They say that the mule-track passes between two rocks on which a mad woman used to sing al night.

“Giu de barche” that is to say  the “boat circle”: the name refers to some mountain tops joined together so as  to look like the keels of boats.

“fraschetta”: it indicates a shady place.

Calvario Chapel: place people walk to during the “via crucis” on good Friday.
